Unleashing the Magic: Highlights from VIECC 2024

The VIECC Vienna Comic Con 2024 was a spectacular celebration of pop culture, gaming, and creativity. Held on November 23-24 at Messe Wien, the event transformed over 42,000m² into a geek haven for thousands of fans. With jaw-dropping cosplay, exciting esports, and star-studded panels, VIECC 2024 brought unforgettable moments for attendees. Let’s dive into the top highlights!

A note: I have chosen the title "My Highlights" because it is almost impossible to see everything that happened at the VIECC, so I will only refer to my experiences of the two days.

Star-Studded Appearances

VIECC 2024 welcomed an impressive roster of international celebrities: Aaron W. Reed (well known for Deadpool & Wolverine 2024), Claudia Christian (well known for Susan Ivanova in Babylon 5 - i could photograph an interview with her!), Craig Fairbrass (many movies and games), Julian Seager (known from Vikings), Michael Winslow (the man of the 10.000 sound effects was quite impressive to hear live on stage! The noises he can produce just with his mouth is amazing), Samantha Alleyne and Vincent Regan.

Cosplay at its finest

As in previous years you could witness awesome costumes at the VIECC® Cosplay Championships. A new addition is the VIECC® Cosplay Catwalk where one could present its cosplay on the big stage, but without the pressure of a competition. Of course, one could find great Cosplayers not only on the main stage but walking around the Con, talking to people and enjoying the atmosphere. I personally love taking portraits of the awesome costumes that for sure took quite long to create.

Creativity on Display in Artist Alley

Artist Alley was a haven for creativity, featuring works from indie creators and industry legends. Attendees could purchase exclusive prints, commission custom art, and learn from live drawing sessions. The vibrant atmosphere was a testament to the thriving community of illustrators, writers, and designers who bring our favorite stories to life. Most fascinating for me is the chance to just talk to them (sometimes there is a queue though ;) )

The Thrills of the VIECC 2024 Stage Fights

In a special Show Stage various groups were showing epic fights. It ranges from Cosplay Dance by Nakari Dance Company, a Battle Saber Lightshow, a show fight with real weapons accompanying a staged reading by Bernhard Hennen and even a YU Tae Kwon Do show.

VIECC 2024 captured the magic of fandom with its blend of star power, community, and creativity. As attendees left with new memories, autographs, and treasures from the event, excitement for VIECC 2025 was already building. For pop culture lovers, this year’s con was truly unforgettable.
