Backstage at the Volkstheater Vienna

As a participant in the In Transition program at Foto Arsenal Wien, I had the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and explore the hidden world of Theater Vienna. This experience allowed me to witness the intricate details of stage production, going under and above the stage , visit the costume designers, and observe the dedicated professionals who bring performances to life.

Everything was already prepared for todays Theaterstück “Bullet Time” which actually also contains references to analoge photography.

The tour took us onto the stage, offering unique vantage points overlooking the audience.

Next stop was beneath the stage where props are located between the performances for later usage.

Most impressive though was the fly loft above the stage. Only until recently this was operated fully manual.

In the realm of the wardrobe tailors at Volkstheater one can witness that good old Pfaff sewing machines are still used to create all costumes and keep then in perfect order.
